Glad to be out of the Land of Clouds and Sausages…

Our first night in HVAR was awesome. We got off the ferry drove to the center of the small town and realized we might be lost for a while. It was 10pm. We had no specific directions to the apartment. We pulled up to a TAXI cab driver and asked him for directions; he said, “I will call him for you.”. And then he took out his cell phone and called our apartment. Apparently he is neighbors with our landlords. Anyways, we were only a mile away and found the place easily after that.
When we arrived the couple who owned the place were very nice. They rent 4 places out and have a small restaurant off of their house and make all their own alcohol. They MADE us sample a few! Even James who probably would’ve preferred a rum and coke. But he put his head down and powered through! That night it was about 11:00pm and we asked about a place to eat, they had a neighbor 5 houses down who was about to close but instead he made us all separate seafood dishes, and then he shared a shot of a fruit brandy with us. We were amazed by his hospitality to make all that at such a late hour. After that we thanked him went home and slept.
Yesterday was our first day in HVAR. It was simple, sunshine, clear, breezy, we went to the beach, swam, and laid in the sun to get rid of our florescent whiteness. Except Dan, he keeps wishing he knew what it was like to burn, but we told him he’s not missing much.
Today it rained, and we drove around the island. I think I scared a few years off of everyone cause the roads we so narrow and it was about 350 feet down with no guard rails. Big trucks made it feels like they were just gonna push you off cause there wasn’t enough room. Either way we made it home and chilled out watching German/Croatian TV. After that we decided to eat. We played it easy and ate pizza.
That’s it for the moment. I’m typing this at the apartment and then will take it down to the internet café to post with pictures.
Cheers,
Ryan

The pictures of Hvar look like the ones I saw on the web --- beautiful. Wow. Impressive. And the people sound great too. I feel like I know them after visiting their website.
Okay, Matt.......Your turn!!

james, i went running the other day and almost called you, but you are over at that place. the picture of jon(with the horns) is cool. it is very hot and humid here. seafood dishes are are pretty much the best ever. nice boats in the water with pink buildings behind them. i think bill kieser would agree. i wish i knew whay Hvar meant.
It looks fantastic! I'm glad your first ferry ride was successful. So I know this is most likely the last thing you are thinking about but... Am I still picking you up on the 10th? I heard rumors of a mini-van rental and I'm not sure what is happening, although 5 people in a sexy black cherry scion seems like a fitting way to end your trip. Just keep me posted, I'll get the message. I'm on this thing like 15 times a day:)
jon... you look good with antlers...
dan... why ya gotta be difficult and pick at your knee when someones taking a picture of you?!
those pictures are gorgeous!!!!!!! glad people are nice and so hospitable there, you guys able to hold your own in conversations with the locals???? and just so you know... clouds and sausages sound a lot better than humid boring america!!! count your blessings! hehe just kidding of course - it looks awesome there, glad your happy to be moving along :)
How's the water? hey daniel, bring me back a little sand okay?
I like the picture of you guys on the steps...3 tourists and Ryan in his pants looking like a beatnik missing his beret and some bongos. :)
Is it time for chris to come back yet? It's not the same without him. :)
I am not a crook.
jon that picture of you under the horns is hilarious!
Hi Dan and ryan and the rest--
Looks like you are having so much fun on your trip. Huge T storms here tonight but making it much cooler here. Dan don't forget Sorrento-- I know you aren't there as of yet. Enjoy!!
Love, Krazy Mary

Oh Bill!! Shame on you.
Finally! SOME SUN! Sorry for the late post but we just got power back after bigtime T-Storms. Looks like a really nice town...have fun.
Corrine...I was under the impression that Vicki and I were picking them up on the 10th with my parents minivan. Dan emailed me arrival info before he left. As of right now Vicki and I are planning on going down to the city for the day then pick them up when they arrive.

Glad Bill and Ester could make it to the Web!
Yes this place feels surreal but we are realizing that its reality. We like the sun and if we continue we will look like dans 3 lost brothers. Wouldnt that be funny. Thanks...
rMan...
ma, there is no sand. we lie on chairs on rocky cliffs.
maybe in italy.
Hey Dan, what's that in the picture behind you, Jon & James? Looks like sand.
I like the picture of Jon with horns too, must be a family thing.
keep having fun!

Can you believe you guys are actually in Croatia? It looks amazing and beautiful! Make sure you take a moment to remind yourselves where you are every so often. And Dan, it's already hard to make out your face in the picture of you guys on the stairs, but happy tanning. Or blacking.
Oh- and a quick question- I once again just paid the price of a good pair of jeans or fabulous shoes to fill my car with gas. Made me curious, what are gas prices out there? I'm guessing higher than here, and they probably sell by liter, so I should probably stop griping. But I'm curious nonetheless...
Jon, your antlers look great but your teeth could use some work!
We miss you. Hope the rest of your trip goes well.
I have to say that I tried reading the blog from the begining and I had to step away from the computer. I felt myself getting sucked into this new BLOG ADDICTION, that seems to be sweeping the world! I know that you guys will have to keep the blog going for a while when you get back!
We wouldn't want all the friends to have to check themselves into a clinic to be able to go on with their lives. This was a cool idea and a great way to share your experience with the friends. We will pray for your SAFE return!
Dan...never thought you could pull off a good head piece...this may be your calling!
...My bad...enlarged the picture...looked like something (shirt) dan would wear...unless it is Daniel's shirt...Jon nice head piece...too bad you can't bring it home!
Hello! I know you brothers had a wonderful time and Daniel I can't wait to hear all your stories in person.
